Finding B&W Inspiration From Others
Earlier in the year, I discovered Nick Mayo's work on Instagram (@nickexposed) as well as his fantastic YouTube channel. We ended up doing a print swap and the frame print has been sitting on my workstation desktop ever since. Nick has an amazing eye for black and white composition with Ilford HP5+ and other films, opting to shoot generally on a 35mm, 50mm or 90mm focal length.
In seeing some of his recent striking vertical still life and more abstract compositions, I felt like exploring that idea a little and do some photographic exercise based on this style. Here are some results. These are all shot on my Leica M with the Voigtländer 50mm F1.5 Nokton Aspherical lens and processed with my Kodak TRI-X 400 digital film simulation.
